Carers Federation, Carers Hub Service (CFS) supports Parent Carers of young people with disabilities or additional needs under the age of 18.
For the first time, parent carers have been included in the Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire Joint Carers Strategy 2023-2028, and parent carers were part of the co-production of the Strategy.
Often, parent carers don’t recognise themselves as carers, and some services don’t either. Through the Carers Hub Service, your role as a carer is recognised, and you are able to access support from a member of our team. You are also entitled to ask for a Carers Assessment under the Children and Families Act 2014 – this is often called a Family Assessment. Click here for more information
Carers Hub Service also offer:
- Specific support group for parent carers where you can speak to others in similar situations and access SEN-related advice from one of our support workers.
- Parent Carer ID card supported by Nottinghamshire County Council, Nottingham City Council and the NHS.
- Access Carefree Breaks for carers – up to 2 nights free hotel breaks in the UK (admin fee applies).
- Give feedback on Carers Hub Services and access co-production opportunities.
There is a recognition that many children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities are out of school, which has an additional impact on Parent Carers, particularly around work. Information for working families can be found here.
Carers Hub Service also works with local parent carer support groups to host meetings and events. Please register with us to access these services.
