DESCRIPTION:Open Door 1 welcome people with early-to mid-onset dementia\, from those who have never been to a day service before to those who have been too many times. Open Door 1 are a fun and engaging community who do not want to leave people behind\, focusing on helping them at a critical time in their diagnosis. \nThe first session is free for attendees to come and see what it’s all about and include two morning activities as well as refreshments. The Alzheimers Society have developed a Community Peer Hub which meets monthly and gives you the opportunity to obtain guidance and resources from local services as well as meet and talk to others who are living with or caring for dementia. \nA variety of services will be on hand to discuss the support they can offer you including social services\, memory group representatives\, Talking Therapies\, benefit services and social prescribers. DESCRIPTION:During Dementia Action Week Nottingham City Libraries are hosting a Dementia Friends session in partnership with Alzheimer’s Society. \nDementia Friends is a light touch information awareness session with a mission to educate\, reduce stigma and spread knowledge about dementia. During the hour-long session\, attendees will learn about how dementia affects the brain and how to live well with dementia (with the right support). \nAttendees are asked to make a pledge and take action to reduce barriers for people in their community living with dementia. This can be as simple as sharing their Dementia Friends badge on social media or using their understanding to show others more patience.
